France 2006 - Day 3

Well, as you probably know France lost the World Cup, so perhaps the celebrations weren't as good as they could have been last night. Nevertheless, we slept well and Day 3 dawned bright and cheerful...

All was peace and quiet as we got ourselves together for the ride ahead.
thumbs/img_2428.jpg
Today Cliff was on the DRZ as his clutch problems on his TS250 were terminal. He discusses the weather with Steve.
thumbs/img_2433.jpg
Bertrand guides Steve up a tricky slope (the camera, as usual, flattens the hill!).
thumbs/img_2439.jpg
Our machines cool down in the woods (as do we!).
thumbs/img_2440.jpg
A short movie clip of Francis and Steve making a tricky descent in the woods.
thumbs/img_2446.jpg
This is us crossing a Roman bridge on a Roman road in the middle of no-where!
thumbs/img_2448.jpg
After a particularly tricky climb Francis makes a quick call to check his insurance covers this sort of thing!
thumbs/img_2454.jpg
The French do 'old roads' very differently from us. In the middle of no-where a walled ancient road!
thumbs/img_2455.jpg
We stop for lunch and Dave joins us to show off his war wound!
thumbs/img_2456.jpg
My top drying off - gives an idea of how hard we were working, or at least how hot it was!
thumbs/img_2461.jpg
LittleJohn found a small oil leak on his Serow. Very unusual. And why is he so happy about it???
thumbs/img_2466.jpg
Trail riding the French way - magnifique! Food and drink supplied to us by Darren and the wives of our hosts! I mean, is this good, or is this good?
thumbs/img_2469.jpg
Francis, Chris, Carlton, LittleJohn and Cliff take a break...
thumbs/img_2473.jpg
But it's Chris' birthday so we have to celebrate!!
thumbs/img_2476.jpg
This was a very effective bodge!
thumbs/img_2477.jpg
Next stop, the seaside! Well, the lakeside really. Trail riding, but not as we know it.
thumbs/img_2489.jpg
Time to clean our helmets...
thumbs/img_2490.jpg
...and then a little more relaxation!
thumbs/img_2492.jpg
Keeping the bikes in the shade - only mad dogs and english-men, etc
thumbs/img_2503.jpg
Not an 'incident', just adjusting the oil level in Carlton's bike!
thumbs/img_2504.jpg
Carlton taking it easy on a slippery stream crossing.
thumbs/img_2507.jpg
It may have been hot, but there was still mud to be found. This is Bertrand on his KTM 125.
thumbs/img_2519.jpg
Carlton poses while the rest of us cool off (as does a hot KTM...).
thumbs/img_2525.jpg
Another old Roman road in excellent condition.
thumbs/img_2529.jpg
A great time was had snaking through the trees. The blur is Francis on his XR400.
thumbs/img_2539.jpg
Chris loses it (his number plate, that is) on a hill climb!
thumbs/img_2540.jpg
Steve helps Chris get his DRZ the right way up.
thumbs/img_2543.jpg
Another short video - Martin very nearly made it, but a tree had other ideas!
thumbs/img_2544.jpg
Carlton keeps the damage to his DRZ to a minimum by putting his leg between it and the ground!
thumbs/img_2545.jpg
Steve finds a stranded Francis and prepares to roost!!! Then I run out of 'film' - damn...
thumbs/img_2546.jpg
I made it to the end! Dirty, but happy.
thumbs/img_2547.jpg
Some food, drink and relaxation followed - this is the life!
thumbs/img_2550.jpg
Francis takes a well earned rest from all that kick-starting.
thumbs/img_2551.jpg
And LittleJohn has an early night... :-)
The end of a day to remember! My apologies for the delay in production - but sometimes the wait makes the meal tastier...
